• Tilmicosin is a semi-synthesized macrolide antibiotic used
for calves, pigs, turkeys and poultry, it has an in vitro anti-
bacterial spectrum that is predominately gram-positive
with activity against certain grm-negative micro-organism,
activity against several Mycoplasma species has also
been seen.
• Apramycin sulfate is a semisynthetic antibiotic that inhibits
the growth of G-negative bacteria, it inhibits the biosynt-
hesis of folic acid, which is important for DNA synthesis
and cell division, it also inhibits the production of RNA by
binding to ribosomes and inhibiting protein synthesis.
• The combination of Tilmicosin and Apramycin stimulate
survival rate, lesion scoring and termination of infection
by the mycoplasmacidal effect of both drugs.
• Hypersensitivity or resistance to tilmicosin.
• Concurrent administration of other macrolides or lincosamides.
• Administration to animals with an active microbial digestion or to equine or caprine species.
• Parenteral administration, especially in porcine species.
• Administration to poultry producing eggs for human consumption or to animals intended for breeding purposes.
• During pregnancy and lactation, use only after a risk/benefit assessment by a veterinarian.
Side Effects:
• Possible cardiac toxicity (tachycardia and
decreased contractility), occasionally, a transient reduction in water has been observed.
